HOW IT WORKS

The ARS—unlike other similar products—is NOT an arthritic shank. It is a mechanism consisting of a lock and hinge system that’s installed in the existing shank of the ring.

No part of your shank is removed or replaced!

The first step of any installation is to determine which of the two ARS variations is needed. The ARSI is most commonly used, with the ARSII coming in to help with more complex ring styles.

The open/close size ratio is also crucial! The optimum ratio for any ARS installation is (3 sizes) larger when open, than when closed. The reason comes down to the physics in play. To achieve a larger opening size ratio, you must increase the length of the lock’s center pin. However, the longer the center pin is, the more outward pressure is applied to it when the ring is closed.

We’ve determined the optimum ratio is (3-4 sizes). Any ARS that is fabricated to open with a ratio of (5-6 sizes) requires special care when closing, so as not to damage the center pin.

The maximum ratio possible to achieve is 6 sizes larger when opened, than closed.

No matter what variation of ARS our ring has been fitted with, the process for opening or closing your ring is generally the same. However, it’s important to understand the mechanics going on, so you can avoid any accidental damage to the system.

When operating your ARS it is important to know the weak points!

The most sensitive area in the system is the center pin inside the lock; when your ring is in the open position, you could accidentally bend, or break this center pin by applying force incorrectly. To avoid any accidents, and ensure your system functions properly, you should always hold your ring carefully when it is opened.

Never bend, or twist your ring in this state!

Additionally, it’s important to never pull outwards when trying to open your ring. Whether the ring is on your finger or not, you should always gently pry open the side of the ring with the lock, by carefully pulling each half of the ring in opposite directions.

Pry, or pull apart the two halves of the ring as shown above.
Never pull outwards on the top or bottom half of the ring. this could damage or break the center pin inside the lock.

TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR ARS!

Just like any other piece of jewelry, cleaning it regularly will help to ensure your ARS functions smoothly. Opening your ring, and gently wiping the center pin with a microfiber cloth will help to remove surface level dirt or grime.

You may use a small amount of dish detergent to gently wash the pin, and wipe dry with a clean paper towel.

Additionally, if you have ordinary Vaseline handy, you can apply a small amount to the center pin, and open/close the ring a few times to work the lubricant into the lock.

Don’t forget the lock component is sensitive when it is in the opened position. Be careful when handling the center pin, especially when cleaning!

Furthermore, any routine cleaning can always be performed by your local Jeweler. And any maintenance, repairs or replacements of the ARS can be done upon the customers request. All that is needed is for the customer to return their ring to the shop they purchased the ARS from, or any Jared’s, Kay’s, or Zales, and the shop will send us the ring to perform the work.

Any maintenance, repair or replacement that is necessary due to user error, or daily wear and tear is fully covered by our LIFETIME GUARANTEE!

Video Instructions: How to open/close your ARS

ARSI (Standard)

The safest way to open the ARSI (Standard) while it’s on your finger is to slide a flat object underneath the ring, and rotate clockwise to pop the lock open.

Additionally, you can simply grab the top of your ring—bracing the bottom half with your thumb—and gently pull the ring open.

ARSII (Double Hinge)

To open the ARSII properly, you will want to make sure you’re pulling on the bottom half of your ring, rather than the top. Similar to the ARSI (Standard), you may use your fingers to pull the bottom half, or stick a flat object like a popsicle stick underneath the bottom half of the ring and turn counterclockwise.

ARSI (Extra Long Pin)

When you try to close an ARS that opens 5-6 sizes, you will want to apply VERY LIGHT pressure on the center pin, as shown in this video. Gently hold the pin in place against your finger with your thumb, while you squeeze the ring closed. Once the ring is mostly closed, you can let go with your thumb and close the ring all the way. Doing this prevents the longer center pin from bowing outwards while squeezing the ring shut, and reduces stress, and wear and tear on the component.
